Edith (Young) Heyser

Edith Rose Young Heyser of East Pikeland Township died suddenly on Monday, December 24th at age 81. She was the wife of Robert H. Heyser, of East Pikeland. Edee was born in Phoenixville Hospital on March 20, 1931. She was a daughter of the late Edith S. Rose and Ivin C. Young. She had two sisters who predeceased her, Mildred S. Dean and Thelma Gordon. She was a graduate of Spring City High School, class of 1949 then furthered her education at Penn State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1953. As a certified teacher she began her career at The Training School in Vineland, NJ, and later taught Home Economics in the Collegeville-Trappe High School. Edee then acquired a teaching position in the Phoenixville Area School District in the Reading Department and as a first grade teacher at Barkley School. She received her Masters of Education Degree from West Chester University. After her retirement from the Phoenixville School District Mrs. Heyser went on to become Education Director for District 5 United States Power Squadron, a member of the Mainstays and a supervising boating instructor for the Mid-Atlantic States. She was an active member at Charlestown United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Church choir. Robert and Edith married on November 15, 1952 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November. Among many talents she enjoyed playing and teaching the piano, knitting, and taking great care of all people around her. She enjoyed spending her time at the beach, doing daily crossword puzzles and reading. She was compassionate and kind. She is survived by her husband Robert H., children, R. Steven Heyser, of Phoenixville, and Jane Heyser Jones, wife of Scott W. Jones, of Schwenksville; grandchildren, Naomi, wife of Kenneth J. Siedlecki, of Spring City, Jillian Rose, wife of John R. Maha, of Chestnut Hill and Kristin L. Jones and her boyfriend William Mackey Jr., of Phoenixville; great grandchildren Hayden Rose and Landen Kenneth Siedlecki and Adelyn Jane and Avery Rose Maha. A Memorial service will be held at 12 PM, on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Charlestown United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Charlestown United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 650 Church Road, Malvern, PA 19355.
