Fay L. Cressman

Fay Leota (Neil) Cressman, 98, wife of the late Clark Cressman passed away on August 16, 2015 in Seasons Hospice. For the past 8 years, Fay lived at the Shannondell Retirement Community in Audubon. Previously, she lived in Audubon for 67 years in the very same house she and her late husband purchased when they were first married. Born in Highland County, VA, on June 16, 1917, she was the daughter of Bertha and Samuel Neil. Fay attended grade schools in Schwenksville, PA and high school in Phoenixville. After graduation, she earned her teaching credentials at the West Chester State Teachers College in West Chester. She began her first teaching position in 1956 at the Mont Clare School teaching the fourth grade – a grade she continued to teach in the Methacton School District until she retired in 1982. Fay loved to teach and her students must have felt this love, because after she retired, she occasionally received letters from her former students (now adults) telling her of their achievements and expressing appreciation for her teaching. Fay was a member of the Green Tree Church of the Brethren in Oaks since she was a young girl. She always loved to dance, especially at the Sunnybrook Ballroom, and after marrying Clark, dancing became their main hobby. During their retirement years, they traveled extensively both here and abroad, and, of course, danced whenever they could. Fay was preceded in death by sisters Angela Neil and Pearl (Henry) Emery, and nephew, Richard Henry. She is survived by sisters Dorothy Seitz and her husband, Harry of Phoenixville, and Betty Erwin and her husband, Robert of Schwenksville, and their son, Mark Erwin, and his wife, Susan, of Virginia; nephew, Barry Henry and wife, Joanne, of Virginia. Surviving also is her faithful caregiver for 8 years, Elisa Samano, and her devoted friend, Sam. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015, at 11:00 am at Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 1078 Egypt Road, Oaks. Officiating will be the Rev. David A. Leiter. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Friends will be received from 10:00-10:45 am.
