Genevieve L. Aitken

Genevieve L. Aitken (Genny) age 85, wife of Gilbert N. Aitken, of Schwenksville, PA, formerly of Moorestown, NJ, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 after a short illness. Born on September 8, 1931 in Zelienople, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Kane) Lotz. Genny was a 1949 graduate of Zelienople High School. She obtained a BA degree in 1952 from Gettysburg College where she met Gilbert. Genny greatly valued education and continued on to obtain a Masters degree from Rowan University. Genny was a dedicated and beloved elementary school teacher in the Moorestown School District for 23 years. She was faithful parish and choir member of Trinity Episocal Church in Moorestown, NJ. Her love of church and community continued as a choir and parish member of the Church of the Epiphany in Royersford, PA and member of the Royersford's women's club. Genny continued her community connections spending wonderful summers at West Shore Association, Lake George, NY with family and dear friends. Her greatest gifts were being a faithful daughter, devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother; always an example of intelligence, kindness and grace. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Genevieve Aitken is survived by her three children, James G. (Naomi) Aitken of Charlottesville, VA, John A. (Geri Lynn) Aitken of Slingerlands, NY, Susan C. (Ron) Lutz of Schwenksville, PA; Seven Grandchildren, Thomas (Erin), Emily, Tyler, Taylor, Olivia, Madeleine, Dawson; Great Grandson, Declan; Brother, David (Geraldine) Lotz of Little River, SC; Genny/Mom/Grandma always shared her gifts of family, friendship, teaching, learning and music with all who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a Memorial Service at Church of the Epiphany, 209 South 3rd Avenue, Royersford, PA on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 7:30. Burial will be held privately in the Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery, Moorestown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, her family requests you purchase a book and donate it to your local library in her memory.
