James Driscoll

James D. Driscoll, 98, of Chester Springs, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008, in the Coatesville VA Medical Center.? He was the husband of Barbara (Place) Driscoll, and preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Starr) Driscoll.? Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late William J. and Rose Driscoll.? Mr. Driscoll attended Wharton Evening School at the University of Pennsylvania for accounting and finance and Army Finance School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis as a Tech 5th Grade.? He was employed in accounting at Guarant Mortgage in Philadelphia, in sales at D.L. Ward Paper Co., in Philadelphia, a manager at A. Pomerantz and Co. in Philadelphia,? as Vice President and general manager for James Industries, making Slinky Toys in Malvern, and in sales at Schaeffer Business Machine and Equipment Co. in West Chester.? ? He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 86th Finance and Disbursement Section, serving in England, Normandy, France, and Luxemburg.?? An ardent sportsman, trap and skeet shooter, and hunter, he was a member of the West Chester Gun Club, the Chester Springs Skeet Club, life member of the South End Reading and New Holland Rod and Gun Club and the Mohnton Gun Club.? In addition to his loving wife of 27 years, Mr. Driscoll is survived by stepdaughters Suzanne, wife of Frederick Benner and Jennifer, wife of Michael Scherer, both of Downingtown, stepson John R., husband of Joanne Glass of AL, grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Justin, Allison, Sarah, Rachel, and Robert, seven great-grandchildren, and several nephews.? He was preceded in death by two brothers.? Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil the Great R.C. Church, 2300 Kimberton Road, Kimberton, on Friday, May 9, 2008, at 10:30 AM.? Officiating will be the Rev. Robert A. McLaughlin.? Interment will be in the George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.?
