John A. Latsko

John A. Latsko, age 90, husband of the late Mary E. (Sharkuski) Latsko, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in ManorCare Health Services, King of Prussia. Born on June 13, 1925 in Nanticoke, PA, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Mazak) Latzsko. Mr. Latsko was a graduate of the Nanticoke High School. He was a faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Phoenixville since 1951. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, fighting during both theaters of war, aboard the USS Catoctin during the Yalta conference. Aboard the ship, he was the Piper and the Assistant Master of Arms guarding Roosevelt; a duty allowing him to meet Churchill and the King of England. Mr. Latsko retired in 1986 from B.F. Goodrich after 35 years. He was a life member of the West End Fire Company in Phoenixville, a member of the American Legion Post 482 in Phoenixville for 70 years, was a member of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, and was a member of the Order of the Dragon. In 2005 he received a World War II Certificate of Appreciation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida, traveling the U.S., and trying new restaurants. Mr. Latsko is survived by one daughter-in-law Claire Latsko, wife of the late Eugene Latsko of Audubon; one son-in-law Cordell Castenova, husband of the late Dr. Linda Latsko Castenova of Phoenixville; one grandson, Michael Latsko, husband of Elizabeth of Harleysville, PA; one great-grandson, Jack Latsko; one niece, Sharon (Mangan) Mayernick, wife of Joseph of Dallas, PA; and one great nephew, Brent Mayernick. In addition to his wife and children, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Leonard Latsko, Victor Latsko, and Anne Latsko Mangan; and two nephews, David Mangan and Mark Mangan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at the St. Ann Church, Main Street at Third Avenue, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:30 am. Officiating will be Rev. John J. Newns. Burial will be held in the St. Ann Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:00 am - 10:15 am Saturday at the church.
