Nancy Joan Campbell Smith

We sorrowfully announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Joan Campbell Smith on March 5th 2021. Nancy was greatly cherished by her husband George, Brother Benson Campbell (wife Diane) children: Scott MacPherson (wife Michele), Daughter Kelly Firment (husband Scott), Son Mark Smith (wife Evie), Son Rick Smith (wife Jen), Daughter Joanne Powell (husband Brian), Grandchildren: Katelyn (husband Jordan), Melissa, Hannah, Hunter, Kyle, Tori, Kayla, Eric and Tyler; her two great grandchildren Violet and Lola. Nancy was proceeded in death by her parents James Huston Campbell and Violet "Polly" Campbell and grandson Huston Firment. Nancy attended her father's alma mater, West Chester University, and graduated with a degree in early education. Nancy participated and excelled in the Ram's choir. One of her proudest moments was granddaughter Melissa announcing graduate school plans at her beloved West Chester. She dedicated her life to children – both her own and the children who graced her classrooms over decades of opening the world of reading to young minds. Even after retirement Nancy volunteered reading to her grandchildren in their classes and teaching Sunday school. Nancy loved to sing in the church choir and if ever in a visiting church pew would undoubtedly be told after the service that she had the most beautiful voice. Many Christmas Eve services were made magical with her Silent Night solo from the church balcony. In her spare time Nancy could be found on the sidelines of soccer, football, field hockey, volleyball, baseball and basketball games and in the audience of orchestra, band, and theatre performances. She was an avid fan of sports but most importantly a fierce and loyal fan of her children and their children. Her sidelines hoots were legendary and may just echo still. She was a fashion plate and loved putting her outfits together for each family gathering. She was colorful in her dress and her spirit. Her bright vivacious spirit, laughter and twinkle in her eyes will live on in the hearts of her family and huge circle of friends. In quiet moments she liked to listen to Johnny Mathis with the love of her life George holding her hand. Private services will be held at St. Peter's United Church of Christ. Funds for Nancy will be donated to children's charities providing equality in education, literacy education and scholarships for the underprivileged.
