Richmond Belcher

Richmond Deming Belcher, husband of Anne (McGregor) Belcher, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Phoenixville, PA at the age of 89. Born on May 25, 1927 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Clarence Belcher and Florence Adelaide (Deming) Belcher. Mr. Belcher was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Yale and Philip Belcher, and his first wife Alida (Schriver) Belcher. Richmond Belcher was a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford, CT and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrical engineer and obtained a Professional Engineering license in New York. In his youth, Mr. Belcher was an avid skier and often visited the Green Mountains of Vermont. Later, he would bring his family there for vacations and trips. He was an accomplished tennis player who inspired and taught his wife, children, and many grandchildren to play. He loved nature, bird watching, and gardening. He was a close observer of the weather and had a keen sense of place within time, space, and geography. A voracious reader, Mr. Belcher routinely had 5-6 books on his nightstand, with topics ranging from natural science to politics to the history of ancient cultures, as well as mystery novels. Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife Anne; by his four children Dana Franklin Belcher of Jackson, NH, Carol Anne Belcher of Berkeley, CA, Diane Meredith Belcher of New London, NH, and Stephen Richmond Belcher and his wife Kristin of Phoenixville, PA; by his eleven grandchildren Christopher Belcher and his wife Elizabeth, Noah Belcher and his wife Dana, Alida Belcher, Joshua Belcher, Robin Belcher and his wife Rosemary Dardick, James Ayer, John (Jack) Ayer, Christian Ayer, Jasmine Friedrich, Deming Belcher, and Nathaniel Belcher; and by his two great-grandchildren Juniper Belcher and Ella Belcher. Mr. Belcher and his wife enjoyed a loving and committed relationship of 59 years of mutual support and dedication with varied accomplishments, achievements, and delights. In their last 11 years together in Phoenixville, Mr. Belcher's golden years were truly golden. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc. Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
