Robert G. Salinger

Robert G. "Bob" Salinger, 82, husband of the late Margaret M. "Peg" (Morris) Salinger, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in Seasons Hospice. Born on June 8, 1938 in Shillington, he was a son of the late Julia (Sakiewicz) and George Salinger. A graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School, Bob earned a bachelors degree in Physics from Notre Dame University and a master's degree in Physics from Rutgers University. He was employed as an aerospace engineer for Martin Marietta and General Electric. Bob later became an actuary in the insurance industry, retiring from Penn Mutual and then consulting for Fidelity Mutual Insurance Company during his retirement. Bob was an avid art collector, world traveler, and student of the arts. He loved plays, movies, operas, music and reading. His most recent passion has been genealogy and tracing the family ancestry. He returned to South Bend, IN 50 years after graduation to attend Notre Dame football games. He loved and was well loved by his family. Mr. Salinger is survived by his children: Kathryn A., wife of Michael Himsworth, of Chester Springs, PA, Carolyn S., wife of Christopher Halmy, of Charlotte, NC, Christine S., wife of Frank Sites, of Collegeville, PA and James, husband of Katharina Salinger, of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Daniel, Claire, Sophia, Kathryn, Brendan, Raymond and Maya; and brother: Richard E. Salinger, of NM. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Delores Salinger. Relatives and close friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass at St. Teresa of Avila, 1260 South Trooper Road, Audubon, Pennsylvania on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00 am. Officiating will be Rev. J. Jerome Wild. Interment will be held privately in the Washington Memorial Chapel Churchyard, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Due to current regulations, CDC guidelines, social distancing and capacity limitation will be followed. Please be considerate of others and a mask is required for entry into the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to The Clinic, 143 Church Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
