Soon Deok (Cho) Kang

Soon Deok (Cho) Kang, age 76, loving wife of Rev. Duck Young Kang of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday. April 8, 2020. Born on May 28, 1943, Mrs. Kang was a faithful woman of God, dedicated teacher, sacrificial mother of Byulah, Hetti, Shion, James, Hanna, Yirae, Boram, and Yeram, and prayerful grandmother of Katie, Shana, Joshua, Rachel, Ethan, Bethany, Elliot, Noelle, Joey, Eunmi, Caleb, Elijah, Isaac, and Paul . She is also survived by Three Brothers, Hun Jong, Mahn Su, and Tae Sik; Two Sisters, Sun Soon and Yun Ja. She loved her Lord Jesus more than anything in this world and pursued the glory of God through her life and legacy. She graduated from Kyungnam Girls High School and Daegu University of Education (1964) and taught various elementary schools for 20 years in South Korea before moving to Erie, PA and continued to teach the Saturday Korean language, music, and dance and Sunday schools in the Erie, Jamestown, and Cleveland area for many years. As a pastor's wife, she supported in church planting and served in the church ministries. As an avid swimmer, she was a member of the YMCA Masters and was an enthusiastic swim instructor for her grandchildren. She enjoyed music, sang in church choir, played the piano and violin, and was a member of Edinboro University String Ensemble and Ashtabula Arts Center. Her life is a testimony of God’s miracles. She was diagnosed with a Stage 4 Lung Cancer in July 2013 with metastases in her lung, brain, and adrenal gland. God sustained her life and gave her joy and hope in the midst of pain and suffering. She testified about God’s grace through her life and spoke about her desires for all her children and grandchildren to proclaim God’s grace through sacrificial love and service for others.
