William Robert Saylor

William Robert Saylor, 96, husband of the late Sara M. (Marsh) Saylor, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, in Keystone Villa at Douglassville. Born in Kenilworth, he was a son of the late J. Ralph and Margaret (Keim) Saylor. He spent his entire life in North Coventry Township prior to moving to Keystone Villa at Douglassville. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II. He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and attended the Wharton School of Business. He and his father were the owners of W.H. Saylor and Son lumber yard and home improvement company, formerly of Pottstown. Mr. Saylor was very active in township politics. He served at North Coventry for 42 years, first as a member of the Township Planning Commission, then as the township supervisor, including serving as the Chairman of the Supervisor Board. He was very active in local Republican politics. He was a member of Coventry Church of the Brethren and had formerly served as treasurer of the North Atlantic District of the Church of the Brethren. Bob was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pottstown and the Chester County Agricultural and Conservation Commission. Bob had a love of music, gardening and spending time at his beach house in Avalon, NJ. He was very aggressive in planting daffodils, having over 10,000 planted around his property he shared with his wife on South Hanover Street for over 60 years. Along with his wife, Bob loved traveling, especially their automobile trips to Mexico and California to visit their daughters and families. Mr. Saylor is survived by his daughters, Sally A., wife of Eric Loken, of East Vincent, M. Carol, wife of Charles Betz, of Huntington Beach, CA, and Marsha L., wife of Dennis Dibbern, of Charles Town, WV; four grandchildren, Katherine Drake, Stephanie Bruton, wife of Colt, Robert Dibbern and wife Katherine and Erin and Dennis Dibbern; two great grandchildren, Jax and Skye Bruton; and siblings, Eleanor Barr, of Kenilworth and Dr. John Saylor, of Long Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ladson and Clyde Saylor. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday, December 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Coventry Church of the Brethren, South Keim and East Cedarville Road, Pottstown. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark Muthler. Interment will follow in the East Coventry Mennonite Cemetery.
