Mr. Donald E. Miller
August 14, 1942 - December 31, 2021
Donald E. Miller, 79, of Phoenixville, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021 surrounded by loving family. Born on August 14, 1942, to the late Roy E. and Helen (Lent) Miller, Donald was a lifetime resident of the Kimberton area. He was the husband of Kathleen (Dungee) Miller, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. Donald honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and earned numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Above all else, Donald was a family man and worked a variety of jobs to provide for those he loved. Following in his father's footsteps, he trained as a carpenter, graduating from Phoenixville HIgh School in 1960. Upon returning from Vietnam, he enjoyed working for Fons Thorum in Kimberton. Over the course of his life, he proved he was a jack of all trades, working factory assembly lines at the BF Goodrich tire plant, Monsey Products, and Uniform Tube. His acceptance of a maintenance position at the Upper Main Line YMCA was a direct reflection of his dedication to his family as he transported his youngest daughter to her daily workouts as a member of their national swim team. He was never more proud than when he was supporting his three daughters, and later his grandchildren, in their activities. From Sunday bowling leagues to softball and the swimming pool, he was always ready to lend a hand in any way he could. He found his greatest pleasure in volunteering for the Kimberton Youth Athletic League (KYAL), serving as both a softball coach and league president. After retiring, Donald began doing maintenance work at DeSanno Field, spending time with his grandsons on the baseball diamond. He attended countless school concerts, awards ceremonies, and graduations. His collection of school spiritwear was vast; however, he could most often be seen sporting a baseball cap for the home team. Any time for himself involved cars or carpentry. He owned a wide variety of cars throughout his lifetime, always tinkering and looking for the next project. Many hours were spent alongside his long time friend Dan Kulp at his garage in Kimberton. If he wasn't working on a car, he could be found maintaining his yard, building something, fixing something, or helping someone out. He loved telling stories, making people laugh, and delivering one-liners. In addition to his wife Kathleen, Donald is survived by his children; Denise Gebhard, wife of David, of Birdsboro, Amy Miller-Perrone, of Phoenixville, and Chrissy Sullivan, wife of Sean, of Phoenixville, his siblings; Jerry Miller and Barbara Campbell, and his grandchildren; Rachel, Sam, Logan, Kristin, Hayden, Cora, Lucas, Cody, Megan and Devon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his fellow serviceman and best friend, Spike Morris. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the viewing at Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 610 Main Street, Phoenixville, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 6pm-8pm. A second viewing will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the funeral home from 10am-11am. The funeral ceremony will begin at 11am. Interment will immediately follow the funeral ceremony at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
