Joseph H. Bean, age 70, husband of Sandra H. (Gilmore) Bean, of Spring City, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 in the Phoenixville Hospital. Born on November 23, 1951 in Norristown, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph N. Bean and the late Madeline (Dean) Roessler, wife of the late Lenny Roessler. Mr. Bean attended Methacton High School. He worked as a school custodian for the Spring-Ford School District, working at Royersford Elementary, Brooke Elementary, and Spring-Ford High Schools, retiring after 26 years of employment. Joe was a member of Rolling Thunder®, Inc. for 29 years, and was a founding member of Chapter 1 in Pennsylvania. He also served as the National President of Rolling Thunder®, Inc. for the past 8 years. Under his guidance and leadership, Rolling Thunder®, Inc. grew to have 80 chapters and 8,000 members nationwide. Through Rolling Thunder®, Inc., Joe also helped support several organizations such as Philadelphia Stand Down, Tunnels for Towers, and the New Freedom Farm in Buchannon, VA, which helps veterans going through therapies. Joe, along with others, were instrumental in getting several bills passed in Washington to support veteran's rights and affairs, most notably meeting President Trump in the Oval Office as he signed the bill requiring the POW/MIA flag to fly at the White House. He also served on the board of the Gold Star Mothers. In addition to riding his Harley, Joe also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Mr. Bean is survived by one son, Joseph L., husband of Cheryl Bean of Benson, NC; grandson, Sammie; bonus son, Austin Crawford of Spring City, PA; two sisters, Mary, wife of the late Jack Robinson and Jo Ann, wife of the late George Butcher; sister-in-law, Sharon, wife of Roger Gould; two brothers-in-law, Lynn, husband of the late Diane Gilmore and David, husband of Laura) Gilmore; many nieces and nephews; and his extended Rolling Thunder®, Inc. family. He was preceded in death by one son, Jason J. Bean and one sister, Barbara Russo. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral ceremony at the Trinity Lighthouse Church, 66 South Limerick Road, Royersford, PA on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11:30 am. Officiating will be Rev. David R. Willauer, Minister of Caregiving at Parker Ford Church. Burial will be held in the Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, PA. Friends will be received from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Thursday at the Church, or again on Friday morning from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Rolling Thunder® Charities (www.rollingthunder1.com/rolling-thunder-charities) or to the New Freedom Farm (www.newfreedomfarm.org).
