Marian Bell Spatz Adams, daughter of Wilson D.B. Spatz and Laura May Bell Spatz, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in the Phoebe Berks Retirement Community, Wernersville, PA.
Born in Reading, PA, she graduated from Reading Senior High School and Kutztown University, where she received her B.S. degree in Education. While at Kutztown, she was inducted into the Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi and the National Honor Society in Education. Mrs. Adams taught in the Cumru Township School District, know known as Gov. Mifflin, as well as substituted in the schools of Reading, Blue Mountain District, Philadelphia, Exeter, and Neshaminy District.
She had also taught at the Government School for Officers' Children at Ft. Riley, KS, during World War II, and had owned and operated her own pre-school in Junction City, KS.
Mrs. Adams was the supportive and loving wife to Rev. Lee F. Adams, Sr., who predeceased her in 2005 after sharing 62 years of marriage. Together, they served churches in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference: Geigertown, Harmony, Cedarville, Temple, Lehighton, Parryville, Slatedale, Schuylkill Haven, Langhorne, Philadelphia, Narberth, Reading and Birdsboro. She had been the Vice President of the "Church Women United" in Pottstown, a district officer of the Ministers' Wives Association of the United Methodist Church of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, and held many various offices in the United Methodist Women. In several churches, she was also the head of Children's Ministries and the Youth, and served as a pianist for many groups.
Mrs. Adams enjoyed gardening, reading, and cooking. She was an avid traveler, especially on Caribbean cruises and to the cottage at Rosedale Camp Grove, where she was active in the Rosedale Camp Meeting Association for over 50 years. She found great interest in education, which was obviously a large aspect of her life. Mrs. Adams also loved and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: Rev. Lee F. Adams, Jr., husband of Carole of Jim Thorpe, PA and Larry K.B. Adams of Reiffton, PA; two grandchildren: Heather, wife of Joseph Herman of Bethlehem, PA and Mark, husband of Danielle Adams of Wyoming, PA; and three great-grandchildren: Alyvia Herman and Roman Herman of Bethlehem, PA and Ava Marian Adams of Wyoming, PA. She is predeceased by Sisters, Emily Spatz and Katherine Spatz; Brothers, Warren Spatz, Wilbur Spatz, Eber Spatz and Bernard Spatz.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral ceremony at the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be her son, Rev. Lee F. Adams, Jr. Burial will be held privately. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
