Robert W. McCann

Robert W. McCann, age 91, husband of the late Marion (Kelly) McCann, of Spring City, PA, formerly Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 in the Southeastern Veterans' Center. Born on February 15, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Edward and Helen (Crapp) McCann. Mr. McCann attended the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Grammar School and graduated from the Saint Thomas More High School in Philadelphia. In the 1990s, he received the Golden Bear award, which is the highest award given yearly to an alumni of Saint Thomas More. Mr. McCann honorably served in the 4th Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment of the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until 1954, attaining the rank of Corporal. Until his medical retirement, he worked as a police officer in the 9th District, Philadelphia. During his employment, he received nine commendations from the Police Commissioner, as well as numerous letters of commendation from civic, veteran, and religious organizations for his volunteer work with children of all walks of life. He also was given the title of Official Santa Claus for the Philadelphia Police Department, playing host to thousands of children around Christmas time over the years. Mr. McCann was an avid deer hunter, often traveling to Tioga County with family. He also looked forward to trips to the shore, especially Wildwood, NJ, where he enjoyed saltwater fishing. Mr. McCann is survived by a grandson, Ryan J. Sawka of Spring City, PA; son-in-law, Joseph P., husband of the late Kelly Ann Sawka of Spring City, PA; a brother-in-law, Thomas F., husband of Helen Ann Kelly of Zieglerville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. McCann was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred, Mary, and Edward; and his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack Kelly, Nancy Kelly, Alice Edwards, and Cecelia Durkin. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at St. Basil the Great R.C. Church, 2300 Kimberton Road, Kimberton, PA on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Rev. Gary T. Pacitti. Burial will follow in the Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. Friends will be received from 10:00 am - 10:45 am Thursday at the church.
