Obituary

Amy Rebecca Schmitt, born Dec. 26, 1973 in Bryn Mawr, PA, mercifully passed from the pain she endured and long fought in this world on October 11, 2021. Amy was the daughter of Edward and Anita Schmitt of Phoenixville, PA.

Amy graduated with Honors from Rosemont College and Drexel University School of Law. She passed the PA Bar exam and was admitted to the PA Bar. In 2011, Amy went on to begin her practice when a rare brain tumor, the cells of which she carried from before she was born, began to grow and took everything from her. It was just as she was reaching her life-long dream to represent clients in Court.

Amy's beautiful smile, amazing intelligence, good heart, courage, incredible determination to overcome all she faced, infectious laugh and limitless generosity will be so sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Amy was predeceased, also in 2011, by the devastating loss of her dear daughter, Danielle Nicole. Amy is survived by her parents, Edward and Anita; sisters, Colette Schmitt and Erin Schmitt (Partner Dane Menkin); and Nieces, Mari Lena, Georgia Irene and Aida Isadora Menkin-Schmitt.

A family graveside internment service is scheduled for Saturday, October 23 at 11 AM at The Washington Memorial Chapel Cemetery, Rochambeau Section, Valley Forge Park, PA.

Amy wanted nothing more than to be a lawyer and fight for the rights of people injured or wronged. In lieu of flowers, Amy would have asked you to consider a donation to support an organization doing work she cared about. Please consider: The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), in its efforts to protect and defend our democracy for all Americans. Donations can be made online at www.naacpldf.org/donate or via PayPal at development@naacpldf.org. Amy also cared about immigrants, like her ancestors who came to this country. Please consider: The Episcopal Migration Ministries that welcomes refugees, educates communities, and mobilizes congregations to advocate for the protection and rights of all migrants. https://episcopalmigrationministries.org/donate-now
