Ann Marie Mackway-Girardi, M.D., age 81, wife of the late Anthony J. Girardi, of Bryn Mawr, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 in the Bryn Mawr Terrace. Born on May 9, 1943 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Ann V. (Sullivan) and Harold J. Mackway.

Dr. Mackway-Girardi completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware, graduating in 1965 with her bachelors degree in chemistry. She received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Pittsburgh 1984, and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1995.

AnnMarie and Tony were married in 1988, and while living in Collingswood, NJ, they were instrumental in developing and expanding the InterFaith Homeless Outreach Council in Camden, NJ. She practiced family medicine in Lee County, VA, beginning in 1998, and she was a board member of the Stone Mountain Health Clinics.

Dr. Mackway-Girardi also volunteered much of her time with Friends of the Wilderness Road State Park in Virginia, and she was an avid gardener. She was a faithful member of Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA, and while living and attending church in Kentucky in the past, she sang in the choir.

Dr. Mackway-Girardi is survived by two sons, Jonathan Mackway Wells and Matthew Bruce, husband of Marcie Wells; two step-children, Nona Marina Girardi, wife of Howard Barnum and Eric Anthony Girardi, husband of Amy Girardi; granddaughter, Madeleine "Maddie" Wells and two step-grandchildren, Miriam Marina Barnum and George McKnight Barnum; two sisters, Catherine, wife of Rocky Genovese and Louise Mackway; and three nephews and two nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at the Washington Memorial Chapel, 2000 Valley Forge Park Road, Valley Forge, PA on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held privately. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM on Thursday morning at the Chapel.
