Anne McGregor Belcher passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in West Chester, PA at the age of 87. Born on September 26, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Rob Roy and Eva (Goff) McGregor. Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Richmond Deming Belcher. Anne was valedictorian of Penn High School in Verona, PA. She received her bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH, and her doctorate in Biochemistry from Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA. Anne's career as a research chemist included positions at American Cyanamid, David Michael Company, and the Monell Chemical Senses Center, where she notably supervised a colony of tamarin monkeys and spent several months at the German Primate Center in Göttingen, Germany.

Anne adored animals, especially dogs, and in particular her beloved Spot, Sheba and Trixie. She loved nature and the outdoors, classical music, good books and poetry, playing tennis with her husband and friends, and spending time with her family, often teaching them such crafts as baking/sewing/knitting, home maintenance, and how to write well. After Anne's retirement, she and her husband enjoyed several trips abroad which were highlights of their lives together. She had a keen interest in history and biographies, and was well-versed about current affairs. In later years she enjoyed computers, bridge, bird watching, gardening, and seeing her family grow.

Anne is survived by her sister Julia Porter and brother Rob Roy (Kazue); her four children Dana, Carol, Diane, and Stephen (Kristin); her eleven grandchildren Christopher (Elizabeth), Noah (Dana), Alida, Jocelyn, Robin (Rosemary), James, Jack, Christian, Jasmine, Deming, and Nathaniel; and by her five great granddaughters Juniper, Clara, Felicity, Ella, and Penelope.

The family wishes to extend deep appreciation to Anne's friends, institutional staff, and the personal companion who lightened her life in its final years.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The family is planning a memorial service. For those unable to attend, Anne would love to be remembered with a reading of one of her favorite poems, Thanatopsis, by William Cullen Bryant.
