Obituary

Austin Anthony Kurtz passed away peacefully in his home on Friday evening, May 13, 2022 after a very brief illness. Austin was the son of the late Derna and Tony Kurtz, and the grandson of the late Anna and Domenick Kurtz of Johnstown, PA.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine Jerman Kurtz; son Thomas Kurtz, husband of Kristy of North Coventry; daughter Karole Kurtz Hamill, wife of James of Malvern; four precious grandchildren who were the loves of his life; two brothers, Domenick Kurtz of Johnstown and Anthony Kurtz of Lancaster; as well as six nieces and nephews.

Mr. Kurtz was a teacher in the Spring-Ford Area School District for 35 years, until his retirement in 2008 as a reading specialist for the Title One Reading Program. He also coached the Spring-Ford Middle School baseball team. Mr. Kurtz was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, where he was a Lector.

He was an avid gardener who took great pride in his beautiful garden and yard. He loved woodworking, cooking, sporting events, spending time at the beach, decorating for the holidays and baking his famous Italian cookies, and walking at the YMCA with friends. He was most happy, however, when he could spend quality time with his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at St. Teresa of Calcutta R.C. Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA 19473 on Wednesday evening, May 18, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. There will be a service that follows (St. Teresa of Calcutta) at 7:30 pm officiated by past and present pastors from the Royersford United Methodist Church. A second visitation will take place in the Church on Thursday morning, May 19, 2022 from 9:30 am – 10:45 am, with a funeral mass beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow in the Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, PA.
