Barbara L. Pruyn, age 88, wife of the late Richard R. Pruyn, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in her residence. Born on January 15, 1934 in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Elsie (Tschammer) and Charles F. Neser.

Barbara received her Bachelor's of Science degree from Temple University and was a graduate of Monmouth Memorial Hospital, Long Branch, NJ. She was Board Certified in Occupational Health and from her love of nursing, served with the Air Guard as a Flight Nurse.

For many years, Barbara and her husband were members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Philadelphia Opera. She loved animals and was a Docent at the Philadelphia Zoo for 35 years. A member of 2 book clubs, Barbara was an avid reader. Barbara and Richard also enjoyed their home on Long Beach Island for 35 years.

Having been certified by Maui in 1960, Barbara was an avid scuba diver, who enjoyed scuba diving in Mexico, the Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Bonaire, Tobago and the Jersey Shore.

Mrs. Pruyn is survived by her children: Michelle Pruyn, of Sea Bright, NJ, Eric, husband of Donna Pruyn, of Cherry Hill, NJ and Deirdre, wife of Gary Smith, of Douglassville, PA; nine grandchildren: Patricia, Richard, Nicholas, Alexander, Sabrina, Maxwell, Tiffany, Lindsay and Tyler; nine great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Gwyneth, Vivienne, Odette, Emily, Lillian, Kathryn, Lukas and Nathaniel; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Charles F. "Bud" Neser.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 am, at Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 203 North Valley Forge Road, Devon. Officiating will be the Rev. Matt Staniz. Interment will follow in the Washington Memorial Chapel Churchyard, Valley Forge.
