Obituary

Barbara E. (Adams) Smith, age 80, wife of Robert L. Smith, of Royersford, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 in her residence. Born on March 9, 1940 in Phoenixville, she was one of four daughters of Anna E. (Bechtel) and Paul M. Adams.

A 1958 graduate of Spring-Ford High School, Barb married her high school sweetheart in July 1959 and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Barbie (as Bob called her) and Bob were best friends and many say they were "joined at the hip." They had many adventures together. The couple were members of the Alpha Omega Players drama club, where Bob helped with set design and Barb played the piano. Barb and Bob sang Christmas carols at private homes, hospitals and malls with the Kiwi Carolers, a singing group from Bob's job. Barb enjoyed riding with Bob and family on many motorcycle rides. The couple took a five week motorcycle trip across the country keeping them only inches apart! There were motorcycle rides with family that were local, there were trips to Lake George for motorcycle events and Barb even had her own license and bike at one time.

Over the years, Barb had been employed at Pennhurst State Hospital and as a Tupperware manager. Barb's true passion was piano. Barb played for several Churches and many weddings. She taught piano lessons from her home for many years, including some of her grandchildren. Barb would end each year with a spectacular recital celebrating her students' successes.

Barb loved camping and would have the VW bus fully loaded when Bob got home from work on a Friday-embark on a 6 hour ride to her parents place in Shinglehouse PA-only to drive back home on Sunday. Barb was an avid hunter for many years. More recently she enjoyed time spent at Jim and Cheryl's cabin upstate in Rome, PA. Barb looked forward to the annual family camp out every Labor Day in Rome, where she always excelled in her matriarchal role. She was intrigued by ancestry and always made sure that the family tree was kept up to date. She was an incredible cook who could make an amazing meal out of nothing and was especially good at hiding vegetables in food. Barb was always happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. Coffee was always on.

In addition to her loving husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by her children: Judy, wife of Stuart McCourry, of Schwenksville, Debbie Guy, of Obelisk, Jim, husband of the late Cheryl Smith, of Gilbertsville and Chris, husband of Loretta Smith, of Collegeville; sisters: Sandi Moyer, wife of the late Robert Moyer of Perkiomenville and Becky, wife of Robert Manoogian, of Fleetwood, eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a sister: Linda Sottolano; and great-grandson: David Osenbach Jr.
