Obituary

Betty Lou (Smiley) Shadle, age 91, wife of the late Stewart C. Shadle, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 in the Sanatoga Center, Pottstown, PA. Born on July 5, 1934 in Phoenixville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Violet (Flasher) and A. Morris Smiley II.

Mrs. Shadle was a 1952 graduate of Spring City High School. She was a lifelong, faithful member of Centennial Lutheran Church in Kimberton, where she sang in the Senior Choir and directed the Junior Choir for many years.

Prior to marriage, Betty Lou worked as a teller for Phoenixville Savings & Loan and loved to dote on her nieces and nephews. After marrying her beloved husband on April 24, 1965 in Centennial Lutheran Church, Betty Lou and Stewart left for Tehran, Iran, where Stewart was stationed and their first daughter LuAnne was born. Next, they transferred to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where their second daughter, Amy, was born. Betty Lou then returned to the area after Stewart was sent to Vietnam, and their last daughter, Jill, was born at the former Valley Forge Army Hospital in Phoenixville.

Mrs. Shadle is survived by three daughters, LuAnne, wife of Wayne Fowler of Gilbertsville, PA, Amy, wife of Lee Bumbarger of Birdsboro, PA, and Jill, wife of Chris Amici of Milford, PA; seven grandchildren, Ashley and husband Adam, Christopher and girlfriend Sydney, Ben, Lexi, Joe, Nicole and husband Steven, Em and wife Carrie; seven great-grandchildren, Myah, Marceline, Nathaniel, Riley, Tommy, Kenny and Isabella; two siblings, Zoanne, wife of the late John Yeager and Joel, husband of the late Sharon Smiley; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Centennial Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1330 Hares Hill Road, Kimberton, PA on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Ian Clements. Burial will follow in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Chester Springs, PA. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM-10:45 AM at the church on Thursday morning. Arrangements are being handled by the Campbell - Ennis - Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Phoenixville, PA.
