Obituary

Calvin "Ace" Avans, age 76, husband of Pamela (Kryder) Avans, of Royersford, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at home following a lengthy cancer battle. Born on February 20, 1949 in Boyertown, PA, he was a son of the late Paul and Mary (Seidel) Avans.

Ace was a graduate of Boyertown Area Senior High School. Immediately upon graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served honorably and was stationed in Vietnam for 36 months.

At the conclusion of his military service, Ace began working for C.S. Garber & Sons Well Drilling. He would continue on to a career in construction blasting, first with Explo-Tech, and most recently with Maurer & Scott, where he had just retired from on February 28 of this year.

Ace was beyond capable of completing almost any type of home improvement project. He was extremely handy, and was always available to his family, friends, and neighbors to guide, troubleshoot, and fix whatever the issue may be.

Ace was a proud and active father and grandfather. He was an avid fisherman, and he cherished the time he spent sharing that hobby with his grandchildren. The highlight of his life were his children, whether it be watching them during their sporting events, or at a family game night playing scrabble.

Ace never met a stranger. He made connections with his neighbors, coworkers, and everybody he came across. Ace genuinely cared about those around him. He was loved by all and his loss will be felt by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.

In addition to his wife, Ace is survived by three children, Brian, husband of Wendy Avans, Julia Avans, and Jill Avans, fiancé of Robert Becker; his beloved grandchildren; three brothers, four sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Friday, March 28, 2025. Friends will be received from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM at the funeral home on Friday morning. Services will follow at 11:00am; officiating will be Rev. Christian McMullan.
