Carol LaPenna, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024 at Green Meadows Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her daughters Franca Cole and Santina Wisely, son-in-law William Wisely, and her three grandchildren Luke, Abigail and Grace Wisely. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luciano.
Carol was born on October 12, 1940 in a small village near York, England. Both her parents, the late Dorothy and Eric Gibson, worked as medical personnel during WWII. Carol's sense of adventure, and opportunities in the United States brought her to Pennsylvania at the age of 20, where she worked as a nanny and then office worker in Philadelphia. There she met her husband, moved to the suburb of Havertown, raised her daughters, and proudly became an American citizen.
Carol had a generous nature and was a caregiver her whole life. Besides having her own in-home daycare, she also worked as a child care worker at Melmark. After retiring, she worked as a crossing guard for Haverford Public Schools and enjoyed delivering flowers and making pizzas.
Carol loved to travel and saw much of the world. She attended the Oberammergau Passion Play in Germany, watched geysers erupt in Iceland, and even kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland! She was a choral singer and a member of the Delaware County Community Choir for many years. She enjoyed plays and musicals as well as movies but her biggest passions were books, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and of course her grandchildren. Carol loved animals and donated to many rescues.
No service is planned. There will be a private celebration of life to be held on a future date. Arrangements are being handled by the Campbell - Ennis - Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc. Condolences may be offered online at www.PhoenixvilleFuneralHome.com.
