Carolyn Yaworsky Phillips, 90, of Mont Clare and Phoenixville, and avid student of her Ukrainian heritage and a past president of community volunteer groups, passed away on December 31, at Parkhouse Providence Pointe.

Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of the late John Yaworsky-Goldycz and Mary Yaworsky of Phoenixville. She grew up in Phoenixville and was a 1936 graduate of Phoenixville High School. During World War II, she was secretary to the general Counsel to General Hershey, the director of the Selective Service in Washington, D.C.

She met her future husband, Dr. Paul Phillips, in 1941. While living in Bucks County in the 1960's and 1970's, she was a dedicated volunteer in her community. She was an active member of the Hannah Penn Chapter of the Pennsylvania Republicans in Philadelphia. She became President of Morrisville Women's Club, where she devoted much of her time to establishing the community library. She was also inducted into the Chapel of the Four Chaplains at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Mrs. Phillips traveled to her Ukrainian homeland to appreciate her family's history, which dates to 1200. She dyed Ukrainian Easter eggs and shared this talent with family members.

She was a talented amateur artist and clothing designer, whose still-life oil paintings won several regional awards. Ever cheerful and optimistic, her genuine love of people and most especially her family was experienced by all who knew her.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul Phillips, of Mont Clare, two nieces, Karen Jogan and Kathi Jogan, and grandnieces, Cheryl Jogan and Dr. Beverly Jogan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

A Panachida service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fairview and St. Mary's Streets, Phoenixville, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery.
