Charles S. Freed III (Chuck), age 68, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022 after a long battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Born on May 26, 1954 in Philadelphia (East Falls), he was a son of Charles S. Freed, Jr. and Lois (Quinn) Freed. He grew up in Plymouth township, attended Epiphany of our Lord grade school, graduated from LaSalle College High School in 1972 and then attended Drexel University. He moved to Phoenixville when he started his family in the early 80s.

From a young age, Chuck had a passion for playing ice hockey and played during high school, college and as an adult on his beloved teams, the Crabs and Roosters. Throughout his life, he reveled in many years of coaching his children and grandchildren in organizations such as KYAL, PMYC and various youth hockey leagues. Here he also mentored many other children and found great joy in watching them flourish.

Chuck worked most of his life as a gifted carpenter and in his down time he used these skills to renovate his home, which remains in the family, and is a cornerstone for all family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time outside tending to his flowers, vegetables, pool and yard. Some of his other favorite places were sitting on the beach reading his newspaper, eating seafood at Smith's Clam Bar or camping at Knoebels. No matter where Chuck was, a constant backdrop to his life was music. He was an aficionado and an avid concert goer. He was a devoted "Deadhead", but also loved discovering new local and eclectic talent.

Chuck is survived by three daughters, Amanda L. (Markus) Steininger of Phoenixville, PA, Colleen M. (Derek) Vasko of Charlotte, NC, and Stephanie (Alex) Swavely, Conastoga, PA, who Chuck considered a daughter; son Charles S. Freed of Birdsboro, PA, and was preceded in death by son, Tyler (TJ) Freed. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Cameron, Mason, Hailey, Tori and Lia; his father Charles S. Freed, Jr. (Joan) of Philadelphia, PA; three brothers, John (Donna) Freed of Pottstown, PA, Daniel (Wendy) Freed of Loudon, TN, Timothy (Deborah) Freed of Phoenixville, PA; sister, Marjorie (Anthony) Pello of Harleysville, PA; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. Chuck was also preceded in death by his mother Lois (Quinn) Freed.

A very special thank you to the staff of Fox Subacute in Warrington and Fox Subacute at Clara Burke in Plymouth Meeting. They cared for Chuck like he was family day in and day out for the duration of his disease and always made him as comfortable as possible.

Relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. and noon on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., 610 South Main Street, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and are invited to stay for the Sharing of Memories at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be held privately.
