Sister Charles Helene McNeelis, SSJ, formerly Patricia A. McNeelis, of Chestnut Hill, formerly of Wheeling, WV and Conshohocken, PA died peacefully in her sleep at the Saint Joseph Villa, Flourtown, PA on Monday, December 15, 2014. She was 89 years old. Born in Conshohocken, PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Delaney) McNeelis. She was a graduate of the St. Matthew's High School in Conshohocken, PA and the Duquesne University. She took her first vows with the Sister of St. Joseph of Wheeling, WV in 1949. She took her final vows in 1952. When her mother became ill in the late 1960's, she requested to be transferred to the SSJ of Chestnut Hill to be closer to her family. Sr. Charles taught in Drexel Hill and Warminster, PA, where she ended her teaching career. She then became the school secretary at the Our Mother of Consolation Parish in Chestnut Hill. In later years, Sr. Charles moved to the St. Joseph Villa and worked in their physical therapy department.
Sister Charles is survived by one brother-in-law: Charles D. Guarino, of Lansdale, PA; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Sr. Charles was pre-deceased by four siblings: Regina C. (William E.) Nash; Helen M. McNeelis; Charles A. "Bud" McNeelis; Mary C. Guarino.
Religious, relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at the St. Joseph Villa, 110 West Wissahickon Avenue, Flourtown, PA 19031 on Friday, December 19th, 2014 at 3:00PM. Celebrating the funeral Mass will be Rev. Gerald Dennis Gill. Burial will be in the Villa Cemetery. The viewing will be from 1:30 - 3:00PM Friday at the Villa.
