Charles H. Peters, husband of the late Betty Ann (Norris) Peters, of Broomall, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 in the Broomall Manor. Born in New Haven, CT, he was a son of the late John Peters and Charlotte (Morris) Hodge.

Mr. Peters was a native of Connecticut. Following graduation from Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven, CT, he entered the Yale Engineering School. In 1945, he temporarily left Yale to join the Merchant Marines, being assigned to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, receiving one year of training in Marine Engineering. In 1946, after a brief return to Yale, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a non-commissioned officer, serving until April of 1948 as a field surveyor. He also was assigned to cartographic work with the Army Intelligence Division in the Pentagon. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Mr. Peters taught descriptive geometry while attending Yale Graduate School. Mr. Peters began his employment as a senior engineering aide in the planning division of the Connecticut State Highway Department, before becoming a consultant with the engineering firm Marchant and Minges, designing structural systems for schools and office buildings. In 1953, Mr. Peters was assigned to review the engineering plans for the West Virginia Turnpike, and subsequently was responsible for the construction of the signage, fencing, and guard rails for the entire Turnpike. In 1955, he was transferred to Boston to serve as project engineer for the Massachusetts Turnpike Extension. Mr. Peters was promoted to engineer-in-charge of the Boston office, and was designated project manager for all Massachusetts Turnpike engineering assignments. In 1966, Mr. Peters, along with his family, moved to Lahore, West Pakistan, where he worked as a highway planning specialist. In 1968, he returned to the United States, moving to Brevard, NC where he opened his own business. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Highway Engineers. Mr. Peters was a Registered Professional Engineer in Connecticut, Massachuetts, and West Virginia, and was a Registered Land Surveyor in Massachusetts. When not working, Mr. Peters enjoyed indulging in his favorite leisure pastimes of swimming, gardening, and carpentry.

Mr. Peters is survived by one son, Andrew, husband of Nancy Peters of Phoenixville, PA; one grandson, Matthew Peters; and cousins Biddy and Peter Irwin. Mr. Peters was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca K. Peters.
