Obituary

Craig L. Zimmerman, age 81, husband of Carolyn J. (Clark) Zimmerman of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in his residence. Born on June 18, 1942 in Mt. Carmel, PA, he was a son of the late Marie (Benning) and Emory Zimmerman.

Craig served in the U.S. Army Reserves from August 1962 until June 1967. He retired after 42 years of working for the United States Postal Service.

Craig was an active member of First UCC, Royersford and involved with many endeavors at Church. He volunteered with Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS), and was a member of the Phoenixville Senior Center, where he enjoyed shooting pool with his friend Rick.

Craig was a 45-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Phoenixville Lodge 1273, Moose Legion, Higher Degree, and later the Sellersville Lodge 1539. He was bestowed the highest honor, The Pilgrim Degree of Merit.

Craig had a lifelong love for music. He played the bass horn and bass drum in the high school marching band. During the late 1950s to early 1960s, he played the drums in a three-piece dance band called "The Hornets." He enjoyed traveling to see drum & bugle corps perform and bagpipes.

Craig had a love for watching westerns, woodworking, train rides, enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with his wife. He would often help his lifelong friend, Chuck and his wife at their winery. He will be remembered by his friends as a laid back, gentle and kindhearted person with a quick wit and dry sense of humor, who was always ready with a one liner. Most importantly, Craig loved his family and the time spent with them.

In addition to his loving wife of almost 55 years, Craig is survived by his daughters: Kristin Olive Zimmerman and Julie L. Zimmerman; grandchildren: Brandon Lee (Hannah) Sturges, Adam J. Sturges and Nina J. Robinson; and sisters-in-law: Shirley Zimmerman and Doris Edwards. He was preceded in death by his son: Paul Craig Zimmerman and five siblings.
