Obituary

D. Jay “Mick” Mowrey, 91, lifelong resident of Royersford, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014, in the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was married to the late Betty (Yeager) Mowrey, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Jay was a son of the late Laura Virginia (Brownback) and Daniel Jacob Mowrey.

Mick graduated from the former Royersford High School Class of 1940 prior to serving in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He had been a lifelong member of Trinity E.C. Church where he served for 45 years as the Church Treasurer, served 52 years on the official board, served as the Sunday school superintendent and was a member of the adult Sunday school class.

He had been employed at the former Cann & Saul Steel Co. in Royersford for 31 years until his retirement in 1987. Mick was a life member of the Humane Fire Co. in Royersford and a member of the American Legion Post 164 since 1946. He volunteered with Project Outreach in Royersford beginning in 1998.

Mick was an avid fan and supporter of Spring-Ford High School sports and the Spring City American Legion baseball team. He was also a member of the Red Sox grounds crew.

Mr. Mowrey is survived by his daughters, Gail E., wife of Mark Whitman, of Shillington and Dawn, wife of Mark Peiffer, of Royersford; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Peiffer, of Pottstown, Troy, husband of Melissa Peiffer, of Pottstown, and Ryan, husband of Kelly Whitman, of Newark, DE. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Anna (Mowrey) Tyson, Horace “Bocco” Mowrey and Donald Mowrey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 11:00 am at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford. Officiating will be the Rev. Ralph W. Owens. Interment will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7:00-8:30 pm on Wednesday evening and from 10:00-11:00 am Thursday morning at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity E.C. Church, 66 S.
