Darlene S. Dyer, age 81, of Phoenixville, PA, wife of the late William T. Dyer, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Spring Mill Senior Living facility. Born on May 12, 1940 in Atlantic City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Sara (Blakemore) Schierstead.
Mrs. Dyer was raised in Brigantine, NJ. She was an Atlantic City High School graduate, where she enjoyed dancing and was active as a majorette. She also graduated from Glassboro State College, now Rowan University, and taught Art at Pierce Middle School of the West Chester School District. At Pierce, she also served as a coach for the middle school's volleyball and gymnastics teams.
Growing up, Mrs. Dyer loved the beach and ocean, and she enjoyed sailing and all types of water sports, as well as target shooting. In her later years, she enjoyed paddle tennis and also took flying lessons. While living at her home in Wayne, PA she would also take in the beauty of nature while spending time on her back deck, where she was an avid deer and birdwatcher. Mrs. Dyer loved animals, especially her dogs and cats.
Mrs. Dyer is survived by two children, William T. Dyer, Jr., companion of Mary Kingston of Glenmoore, PA and Melanie Horn, wife of John Horn of Spring City, PA; and two grandchildren, William Dyer and Emery Horn.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 100 St. Elizabeth Dr., Chester Springs, PA on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:00 am. Prior to mass guests will be received from 9:00 am - 9:45 am Thursday at the Church. Burial will follow in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
