Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Derek S. Huey, 46, announces his passing on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in Lankenau Hospital after an all-too-short, but fierce and courageous, battle with cancer. The son of Wayne (Judy) Huey of Malvern PA and Geri (Craig Keemer) Huey, of Reading, PA, Derek was born on June 12, 1971 in Pittsburgh, PA, but spent much of his life in the Reading area, where he attended the Lancaster Country Day School. After graduating from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, Derek worked the majority of his career in IT, most recently in sales with Intapp, a technology firm based in Palo Alto, CA. Professionally, Derek had a unique and highly coveted ability to build bridges and relationships between and among those with varying familiarity with, and understanding of, technology. He deftly managed to understand and address complex high level technology problems while simultaneously communicating effectively with programmers and engineers to implement creative and efficient solutions.

With his beloved wife, Kris (Garfinkle) Huey and cherished children, son Caleb and daughter Mila, Derek spent the happiest 20 years of his life in Royersford, PA, where he was the self-appointed chief dog walker, lawn mower, and master of house and car maintenance. He loved spending time with his family and took great pride in watching his children swim for the Nine Oaks Swim Club in Royersford, where the family has many dear friends. He also enjoyed skiing and golfing with his children, watching his son Caleb wrestle, hiking and mountain biking in the woods at French Creek State Park and humoring Kris by spending 2 weeks at the Jersey shore every summer. His most recent passion, however, was coaching Caleb's mountain bike racing team. Derek spent many happy hours with the Tredyffrin-Easttown Mountain Bike Club and was a much loved and respected member of the coaching staff.

Derek will be sadly missed and forever remembered—especially for his quick wit and biting sense of humor—which brought laughter and happiness into the lives of all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, children and parents, Derek is also survived by his sister, Kristyn Lederer and her children Zane, Annika, and Ridge, of Trumbauersville, PA, brother-in-law, Brendan Lederer of Quakertown, PA, father-in-law, Sylvan Garfinkle of Berwyn, PA, sister-in-law, Julie (Peter) Bartolini of Scottsdale, AZ and brother-in-law, Ken (Tamara) Barbet of Ivyland, PA.

Family and friends are invited to gather for Derek's Remembering on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 2-5 PM at Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mayan Families at https://www.mayanfamilies.org or the Tredyffrin Easttown Mountain Bike Club at http://temtb.org/2017/index.php/donations
