Obituary

Donald F. Evans, 92, of Collegeville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 04, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Kathryn E. (Lynch) Evans, who died in 1997.

He was born in Phoenixville to the late John L. and Mabel (Hampton) Evans. Don was a graduate of Phoenixville High School. After enlisting in the Army in 1942, he served in North Africa, Sicily, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with Reconnaissance Company, Sixty-Sixth Armored Regiment of the Second Armored Division (Hell on Wheels). Among his commendations were seven campaign stars and two Arrowheads, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation and Belgian Fourragere.

In 2013 he went to Hollywood and served as a military consultant for the movie Fury.

He was employed as a forklift operator for thirty-three years at Pottstown Newcrete until he retired in 1978.

He was a faithful member and deacon of Valley Forge Baptist.

Don is survived by his children: Donna M. Mengel and her husband David, of Royersford; Kenneth R. Evans, of Towanda and John C. Evans and his wife, Diane, of Spring City; a sister Pearl Schmidt, widow of Charles, of Phoenixville, PA; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robin E. Evans, late husband of Ann Evans, of Royersford and brothers, Robert and Edgar.

His Homegoing Service, led by Pastor Scott E. Wendal, will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 7 PM at Valley Forge Baptist, 616 S. Trappe Rd., Collegeville, PA. Calling time is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial, with military honors, will be at Limerick Garden of Memories on Saturday at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Forge Baptist Academy at the above address. Online condolences may be offered at www.royersfordfuneralhome.com.
