Donald E. Karns, 90, husband of the late Esther L. (Kistler) Karns, of Ambler, formerly of Fairview Village, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2019 in Spring House Estates. Born on May 25, 1928 in Troy, Ohio, he was the only child of the late Alfred and Wilma (Retter) Karns.
Don was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was a hardworking and dedicated family man.
Don graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a dedicated and loyal employee for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 33 years. Don was also a Masonic member of the Stow Lodge #768 F. and A.M.
Don was an avid golfer, bowler and reader. He always enjoyed attending Phillies games as a season ticket holder, and watching various sports on TV, especially college football. He also loved music, playing the saxophone and clarinet in a local Big Band and the Army band, and continuing to play throughout his life for the pure enjoyment. His humor and wit made everyone around him smile and he was always ready to offer advice.
Don is survived by his three children: Deborah L., and husband Thomas Scheier of Phoenixville, Michael S., and wife Amanda Karns of Hatboro and Patricia L., and husband Greg Pifer of Lansdale; ten grandchildren: Stephen Scheier, Michael Scheier, Jeffrey Scheier, David Scheier, Douglas Karns, Cathryn (Karns) Cornell, Hope (Karns) Braunsberg, Kristen (Pifer) Hill, Michelle Pifer, and Jackson Pifer; and nine great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 2725 Egypt Road, Audubon, on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 am. Officiating will be the Rev. William R. Mueller. Interment will follow in the George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting. Friends will be received from 8:45 am - 9:45 am Saturday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 2725 Egypt Road, Audubon, PA 19403.
