Donald P. Kays, age 94, husband of Eileen (Whitaker) Kays of Phoenixville, PA, formerly Cream Ridge, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at home. Born on November 20, 1929 in Scranton, PA, he was a son of the late Raymond and Marie (Meekins) Kays.
Mr. Kays was a graduate of Verona High School. He honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Tarawa. Mr. Kays was involved in the harness racing industry, breeding, training, and racing horses. During the span of his career, he was also an accomplished and successful driver.
In retirement, he took up golf, not only winning trophies at many tournaments but also holding a position of employment at Pickering Valley Golf Course in Phoenixville. In addition to golf, Mr. Kays was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. He cherished the time spent with his family, taking annual trips to Point Pleasant Beach. His outrageous sense of humor and positive qualities were passed to his children, while he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 71 years, Mr. Kays is survived by three children, Jeffrey Kays, Mitchell Kays, and Donna (Joe) Kays; four grandchildren, Michelle (Brent) Allen, Angela (Jeremy) Christopherson, Shawn (Missy) Kays, and Brittany (Jake) Jacobson; six great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, and four siblings, Bob Kays, Marilyn Buder, Jack Kays, and Tommy Kays.
