Obituary

Doris L. Houck, age 99, wife of the late Raymond F. Houck, resident of the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Born on July 31, 1927 in Norristown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Katharine M. (Fair) Lafferty.

Mrs. Houck was a 1945 graduate of Norristown High School, and she married Raymond F. Houck on July 9, 1949. As they started their family, they loved spending time at Lake Wallenpaupack, a beloved family tradition that carries on to this day. On September 6, 2009, along with her husband, Mrs. Houck was baptized in Lake Wallenpaupack, by their son, at the family cabin.

Mrs. Houck worked as a longtime bank teller, as well as in the bookstore of Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell. She eventually would retire as a Clerk of Courts in Montgomery County Courthouse, a position that provided many entertaining stories over the years. She was a lifelong sports fan, particularly rooting for the Philadelphia Phillies. She was dedicated to community service as a beloved member of the Collegeville Women's Club, the Collegeville Garden Club, the Collegeville Community Club and the local Questers group. She also volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Mobile, as a Judge of Elections in Collegeville, as a reading tutor for elementary school students, and by maintaining, planting and landscaping the Water Works Park in Collegeville. Having lived all of her 99 years locally, she traveled extensively, including several tours of Europe, Mexico and the United States. One life goal was realized with her having visited all 50 US states.

She was a skilled gardener, loved animals of all kinds and found joy and solace in nature. She was a loyal and deeply devoted friend. Mrs. Houck lived a rich life, but she always said that her greatest joy came while spending time with her grandchildren. In recent days she was thrilled to have met her first two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Houck is survived by two children, Janet Houck, wife of Ronald Parker and Rev. Wayne Houck, husband of Christina Houck; two grandchildren, Nathan, husband of Viktoryia Houck and Juliana, wife of Dr. Benjamin Linkel; and great-grandchildren, Alistair, Lydia, and one great-grandson (Nolan) on the way. She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Lafferty, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service in the Chapel at Peter Becker Community, 800 Maple Avenue, Harleysville, PA on Friday, November 20, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be her son, Rev. Wayne Houck. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM in the Chapel on Friday morning.
