Doris Mae Hennessy, age 92, wife of the late John D. Hennessy, of Phoenixville, PA, formerly Long Island, NY and West Chester, PA, passed Monday, January 27, 2020 at home. Born on August 5, 1927 in Bay Ridge, NY, she was a daughter of the late John and Theresa (Sessa) Lombardi.
Mrs. Hennessy met her husband while working at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan as a secretary for the Shell Oil Company. As they began to raise their family, they moved to Long Island. She loved gardening, was a great cook, an avid tennis player, and enjoyed a round of golf. She was a member of the Ladies Rosary Society and served as a Girl Scout leader. She cherished the time she spent with her great group of friends from Long Island, and most of all the time with her family and grandchildren.
Mrs. Hennessy is survived by one daughter, Joan M., wife of Thomas G. Cates of Phoenixville, PA; son-in-law John J. Scacella; and five grandchildren, Jaclyn Scarcella, Danielle Scarcella, Douglas Cates, Matthew Cates, and Elizabeth Scarcella. Mrs. Hennessy was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa A. Scarcella and one sister, Gladys wife of the late William Gallo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass at St. Basil the Great R.C. Church, 2300 Kimberton Road, Kimberton, PA on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Rev. Gary T. Pacitti. Burial will be held in the St. Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville. Friends will be received from 9:30 am - 10:45 am Monday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Mrs. Hennessy's daughter Teresa, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, P.O. Box 32141, New York, NY 10087.
