Dorothy L. Adams' Obituary
Dorothy L. Adams, 94, a lifelong resident of Phoenixville, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 in Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, NJ after a sudden illness.
She was born in Wilmington, DE to the late James P. and Lucretia (Makin) Lengel. While in her formative years, she grew up helping her parents at their business, Lengel's Drug Store of Phoenixville. Dorothy was the Valedictorian of Phoenixville High School's Class of 1935. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Gettysburg College and received her teaching certificate from West Chester University.
Her career included positions in the Department of Public Assistance under Eleanor Roosevelt, real estate, and substitute teaching in Owen J. Roberts, Great Valley and Downingtown School Districts. Dorothy was also the proprietor of Kimber Hall Gift and Antique Shop from 1972-2001.
She was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Adams took great pride in her community and contributed to it by memberships in the Phoenixville Soroptimist Club and Phoenixville's local Garden and Book Clubs. Her true love however, was her family. She loved spending time with her daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog Trina. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan A., wife of David B. Meadows, with whom she lived; grandchildren: David J., husband of Beth Meadows and Bryan P. Meadows fiancé of Kristin Ewing, all of Phoenixville; and great-grandchildren: David M., Joseph P., Matthew J. and Daniel J. Meadows.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 121 Church St. Phoenixville, PA. The Rev. Koshy Matthews will officiate. Visitations will be Thursday 7-8:30 PM at Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA and Friday at the church from 9:30-10:15 AM. Burial will be St. Andrew's Cemetery, Glenmoore, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Phoenixville Public Library Foundation, 183 Second Avenue, Phoenixville, PA.
