Dorothy Mae Hartranft, a lifelong resident of East Coventry Township, died Saturday at the Golden Living nursing home in Phoenixville, where she was a resident since 2009.

The elder daughter of Robert Sawyer Mackissic, a local dairy farmer, and S. Helen (Pennypacker) MacKissic, Dorothy was born in 1918 in Parker Ford.
She was known as a pleasant, quiet person, who was more comfortable serving the needs of those she cared about behind the scenes. She was a hard worker, and never one to shirk her duty.

For many decades, Dorothy could be found on a Sunday morning, playing the old hymns and gospel songs on the piano for the opening of Sunday school at the Parker Ford Baptist Church, where she was a member for more than 80 years.

A graduate of Spring City High School and Pottstown Business School, Dorothy later work for a time at the Stratford Knitting Mill in Linfield, and at the Clover Lamp Factory in Royersford. She married another East Coventry resident, Leon J. Hartranft, in 1941.

Always an animal-lover, Dorothy enjoyed the family’s pets immensely, but the greatest joys in her life were her son Neal, and her grandchildren. She delighted in spending Saturdays with the growing family, working around outside or in, doing whatever was needed, and helping out in whatever way she could. She enjoyed table games with the family, and oh, how she loved to laugh!

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband and parents. She is survived by her son, Neal B. and his wife, Linda of East Coventry; by her sister, Pearl A. McAfee of Glen Moore; by four grandchildren: Laurie A. Hartranft of Pottstown, Holly M. Lessey (and husband, Micah) of Lancaster, Amy B. Hartranft of Philadelphia, and Joel I. Hartranft also of East Coventry; and by her nephew, Kevin McAfee (and his wife, Sandy), also of Glen Moore.

Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday, June 10th from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with the funeral at 11:00, at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Davalt, pastor of the Parker Ford Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Parker Ford. There will be no grave-side service.
