Elaine (Swavely) Hughes, age 84, wife of the late Calvin E. Hughes, of Union Township, PA passed away on Wednesday evening, September 5, 2012 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. Born in Pottstown, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Edythe (Lloyd) Swavely.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of Shenkel United Church of Christ, where she enjoyed attending the Lunch Bunch gathering each month. She liked traveling to the Jersey shore and camping with her family, as well as going to the Hershey Bears and Reading Royals ice hockey games. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed gardening, and loved to spend time with her three grandsons, her great-granddaughter, and her cat Skippy.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by two daughters, Marcia, wife of Ralph Denlinger of Oxford, PA and Patti Hughes of Douglassville, PA; one son, Thomas, husband of Ellen Hughes of Richland, WA; three grandsons, Michael, husband of Allison Denlinger, Mark Denlinger, fiancée of Amanda Novak, and Gregory, husband of Kaity Hughes; one great-granddaughter Abigail; and one niece Brenda Smith. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Berriker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the Shenkel United Church of Christ, 1580 Shenkel Road, Pottstown, PA 19465 on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie L. Moore and the Rev. Robert Reiff. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends will be received at the church Monday morning from 10:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 625 W. Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
