Elenore D. "Ellie" (Behrens) Brookins, age 83, wife of the late Lee B. Brookins and companion of James G. "Jim" Getz, of Walton, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 16, 2022 in the Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville, PA while visiting family. Born on October 14, 1939 in Franklin Square on Long Island, NY, she was a daughter of the late Johann and Dora (Borchers) Behrens.

Mrs. Brookins was a graduate of the State University of New York Oneonta, where she received her degree in Education. She retired after many years as a kindergarten teacher for Sidney Central School. Mrs. Brookins was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sidney, where she also taught Sunday School.

She was a certified group leader for La Leche League (LLL), a non-profit advocacy, education and training organization dedicated to breastfeeding. She enjoyed homemaking and cooking, and she took great pride in both her vegetable and flower gardens.

Mrs. Brookins is survived by two sons, Russell D. Brookins of Rome, NY and Neil G., husband of the late Heather Brookins of Phoenixville, PA; one granddaughter, Samantha Brookins; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy "Dottie", wife of the late Charles Cook.

A memorial will take place in the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 139 W. Main St, Sidney, NY 13838 on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 am. A memorial luncheon will follow the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
