Elizabeth “Betsy” Ross Church died peacefully in her home on May 9th surrounded by family and friends. Betsy grew up in New Jersey and spent her time in Haddonfield and the beaches of Cape May. She married Dr. John Church after graduating from Green Mountain College in Vermont. Betsy and Dr. Church built a successful veterinary practice and raised sheep and children on their farm in Phoenixville. The family enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake and eventually turned that love of water into a summer house on Martha’s Vineyard.
Betsy loved her family, gardens, friends, cooking and champagne. Betsy particularly enjoyed spending beach time with her children, grand and great grand children on Vineyard Sound. Later in life, Betsy moved to Middlebury Vermont to be close to family and enjoy small town life.
Betsy is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and three great grand children. They will remember her for her love of flowers, gardens, and little neck clams on the half shell, among other things.
