Elsie V. (Burkepile) Rothenberger, age 90, wife of the late Jacob H. Rothenberger Jr. of Spring City, PA, formerly Boyertown, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the Phoenixville Hospital. Born on February 17, 1934 in Millerstown, Perry County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Lottie Elizabeth (Dell) and Walter Burkepile. She and her late husband had been married 53 years at the time of his passing in 2013.
Mrs. Rothenberger resided in the Boyertown area from the 1940s through 2019, when she moved to Spring City. She was a longtime, faithful member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Boyertown, where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years.
Mrs. Rothenberger cherished her time as a homemaker, caring for her family and children. As the children grew, she was a proud associate at the Ames Department Store in Boyertown, a store that she helped open. She served as a Girl Scout leader for many years, and was a longtime member of the Society of Farm Women of Berks County. Until her husband's passing in 2013, she was also an active member of The Center at Spring Street in Boyertown.
Mrs. Rothenberger enjoyed traveling, proudly visiting 46 states throughout the years. From the 1980s until 2012, along with her husband, she traveled to his World War II Naval ship reunion. She enjoyed baking, crafting and decorating beautiful wedding cakes for family. She was also famous for her shoofly pie. Along with her family, she enjoyed camping and fishing, and also enjoyed crocheting, plastic canvas needlepoint, completing jigsaw puzzles and word searches. Her home and gardens were always flourishing, and she was able to grow flowers every month of the year.
Mrs. Rothenberger is survived by seven children, Mary, wife of the late Roger Fizz; Ruth, wife of Lowell McMullen; Lottie, wife of Ebbin Hildenbrand; Alethea, wife of Kenneth Lynch; Dorothy, wife of Scott Ziegler; Jacob H. III, husband of Cheree Rothenberger, and John Rothenberger; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter, husband of Pat Burkepile; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Rothenberger was preceded in death by four siblings, John Burkepile, Verna Taylor, Violet Wileman, and Olive Zern.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the Faith Bible Fellowship Church, 25 Pennhurst Road, Spring City, PA on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Kauffman. Burial will follow in the Limerick Garden of Memories. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM at the church on Thursday morning.
