Obituary

Evelyn (Wukovits) Frederick, age 91, wife of William Frederick of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, in Accelerate Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Exton. Born on September 15, 1931, in Hellertown, she was the daughter of the late Theresa (Zsapko) and Charles Wukovits.

In her younger years, Evelyn sang in her junior high school glee club and the Liberty Twelve Plus in high school. She also sang in her church choir, fostering a love of music that continued throughout her life. After she graduated from high school, she began acting with the Drawing Room Theatre Radio Chorus and later was active with The Hanover Players and the Harrisburg Community Theatre, where she acted and enjoyed singing in performances.

She later served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. Evelyn was a member of the Phoenixville Senior Center and bowled in a league at the former Phoenix Lanes before its closure and was responsible for moving the league to Limerick Bowl in Limerick. An active member of the First United Methodist Church of Phoenixville, Evelyn was a member of the "Leisures" and co-produced an event, "An Evening of Entertainment," which raised money for Habitat for Humanity.

She also enjoyed completing cryptograms, writing stories and was a self-published author who wrote her memories. She loved planning trips and traveling to new places.

She took pride in her work life and was frequently commended for exceptional service. She held jobs at both the Patriot News in Harrisburg and the Hanover Evening Sun. She retired in 1994 from the Mechanicsburg Rehab Hospital where she worked in admissions.

In addition to her husband of 70 years, Evelyn is survived by her daughter: Lynne Frederick; granddaughters: Megan Hockenbury and Kathryn Hockenbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Irene Goserud and Dorothy Field; and brothers: Gustav and Elmer Allman and Gustav Wukovits.

A memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Phoenixville will be held on March 4, 2023, at 11 am (family visitation at 10:30). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn's name to the First United Methodist Church of Phoenixville, 865 S.
