Obituary

Colonel Francis Jacobs USAF (Ret), age 96, of Royersford, PA husband of the late Ginette (Gambault) Jacobs, died early Tuesday morning, July 20, 2010 in the Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester, PA. Born in Nanticoke, PA, he was a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Jacobs.

Mr. Jacobs attended Penn State University and then spent 32 years in the Army, Army Air Corps, and United State Air Force. He served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He met his beloved wife, Ginette in Paris, France where they got married and honeymooned in Monte Carlo. After the war he graduated from University of Nebraska, and earned a Masters from the University of Virginia After retiring from the USAF in 1967 he served as head of the Math Department and Professor of Mathematics at Northern Virginia College. .

Col. Jacobs was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Royersford, and a former member of SpringFord Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf well into his 80's.

Col. Jacobs is survived by two sons; John F., husband of Jamie (Shillingford) Jacobs, of Royersford, PA, Mark A., husband of Christine (Mattson) Jacobs, of Phoenix, AZ. He has six grandchildren: Christian, Danielle, David, Leah, Ryan, and Valarie, and several nieces and nephews. Col. Jacobs was pre-deceased by six brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Lewis Road at Walnut Street, Royersford, PA on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Friends will be received from 9:30-10:15AM at the Church with Mass at 10:30am. Officiating will be the Rev. Peter J. DiMaria. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, P.O. Box 64, Royersford, PA 19468. The Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA is in charge of the arrangements.
