Frederick R. Coldwell, age 79, husband of Karen (Wright) Coldwell of Spring City, PA, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 in the Phoenixville Hospital. Born on February 29, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Ferdinand and Ruth (Morris) Coldwell.

Fred was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, where he lettered in wrestling and football. He would go on to attend St. Joseph University, where he would meet his eventual wife, Karen. Fred was patriotic and loved his country. He served honorably aboard the USS Lexington during the Cuban blockade by the United States Navy.

After his discharge from the Navy, Fred had a professional career that was widely varied. The skills he acquired as a Naval electrician led him to pursue a career with the Philadelphia Electric Company and then as an atomic energy lecturer at the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. Later in life his two primary occupations were as a Marketing Director at an architectural firm, where he authored a book on marketing, and as a Home Inspector, where he was able to utilize his vast array of knowledge and skill. He was not afraid to take risks and he earned great success with several businesses as an entrepreneur.

Like any proud Navy man, Fred loved the sea. Whether it was sailing or just spending time in Saint Michaels, MD and Annapolis, MD. As a young man he enjoyed scuba diving and he later earned a Captain's License. Fred also took to the sky and earned a Pilot's License as well.

Throughout the years, Fred could most often be found tinkering in his garage, rebuilding engines or restoring his classic Mustangs. Fred not only loved cars, but he was an amateur race car driver, having owned and raced hot rods and Formula cars.

Family was paramount to Fred, and simply spending time around them brought him the greatest amount of joy. He was a down to earth, pure human-being who would take the shirt off his back for friends and strangers alike. Fred believed in morality and justice which he consistently displayed through his kind actions.

In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by three sons, David R., husband of Nicole Coldwell, Daniel F., husband of Amorette Coldwell, and Frederick R. Jr., husband of Natia Coldwell; five grandchildren; one brother, Robert, husband of Donna Coldwell; and one niece and one nephew. Fred will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., 610 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:30 AM. Officiating will be Chaplain Donna deBussy. Burial will be held privately. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM-11:30 AM at the funeral home Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Paralyzed Veterans of America at PVA.org.
