Gary L. Grater, age 89, husband of the late Nancy J. (Donovan) Grater of Royersford, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at home. Born on June 23, 1934 in East Vincent Township, he was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Place) Grater.

Mr. Grater was a graduate of Royersford High School, where he was an exceptional football player, having been crowned Mr. Touchdown his senior year. He honorably served in the United States Army. He retired in 1996 as a bench operator from Superior Tube, having been employed there since 1953.

Mr. Grater was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Royersford. He was a member of the Spring-Ford Lodge #553, as well as the Royersford VFW, Friendship Fire Company, Human Fire Company, and Liberty Steam Fire Company in Spring City. Mr. Grater was an amateur weather observer and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He could often be found outside in his driveway or in the garage waving to those that passed by.

Mr. Grater is survived by his grandson, Gavin Grater of Royersford. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Grater; and a brother, Frank Grater.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Wayne Shelor. Burial will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford, PA. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM-10:45 AM at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Royersford Fire Department, 269 Green Street, Royersford, PA 19468 or to a charity of your choice.
