George N. Metz, 72, of Limerick and formerly of Conshohocken, passed away suddenly at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital on Monday, July 11, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Doris and Augustine Metz and is survived by his wife, Anne, son George and wife Donna, grandson Zachary, and stepsons, Matthew and Jon Fleer and wife Sharon and a brother, Joseph.

After serving in the Army, he began his career with the Lower Merion Township Police Department as a detective and criminal investigator from 1963-1991. A second career followed as a homicide detective with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office from 1991 to 1999, his much deserved retirement year. He also served as Fire Chief in Conshohocken from 1975 to 1991. A graduate of Conshohocken High School, he trained at the PA State Police Academy in Hershey and the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. George received many awards and recognitions throughout his law enforcement career. He most enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending quiet time in his cabin in the mountains with friends and family. He spent an especially enjoyable day this past Thursday fishing with his beloved grandson Zach. George was dearly loved by many and will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched with his special ways.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, July 14th, at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington St, Royersford, PA from 7-9 PM and on Friday from 8:15 to 9:15 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Walnut Street at Lewis Road, Royersford, PA. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
