Obituary

Gerard J. Burrows, age 83, husband of Alice Neva (Husher) Burrows, of Royersford, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 in his residence. Born on November 20, 1941, in Darby, PA, he was a son of the late Agnes (Bolger) and Leo Burrows.

A proud member of the United States Marine Corps from 1963-1975, Gerard served three tours in Vietnam. He had been a recipient of the Presidential Unit Commendation, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, the Vietnam Service Medal with Three Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Staff Medal First Class, and the Vietnam Civil Actions Medal First Class.

As a young man, Gerard competed in swimming and always enjoyed the challenge of climbing any object he encountered whether manmade or in nature. But most importantly, Gerard was a devout Christian Believer. He was a lifetime avid reader of the Bible, Biblical literature, and history (Biblical and secular). Therefore, coupled with his great memory and intelligence, he was always ready for a debate or deliver a College level lecture. His number one goal, till the end of his days, was to lead his family to Christ and anyone else who would listen to him.

Gerard will be remembered as a follower of Christ, and as a loving father and grandfather. He loved and adored his family, and the feelings were mutual. Till the end of his days, he always offered to hold grandbabies and watch children when needed. His grandchildren loved his visits and when he would take them out to the store and to eat. When talking to people who knew Gerard, they unanimously would say that he loved and always talked about his grandchildren.

Gerard gave generously and sacrificially. He particularly loved giving flashlights, with batteries, to family members. And he could always be relied upon to have Bounty paper towels, full-sized sheets, on-demand.

Gerard's family truly misses him. But they know with peace and confidence that they will once again see and embrace him. And Gerard would encourage anyone who desires that same peace and confidence to reach out to his family.

In addition to his sweet loving wife, Gerard is survived by his children: Gerard D., husband of Susanne Burrows and Elizabeth B., wife of Robert Howe; grandchildren: Robbie, Bethany, Ella May, Trinity, Amelia, Eli, Julia, Max, Leo, and Sam; siblings: Claire, Brendan, Grace, Ray, Daniel, Angela, Gregory, Joe, Tom, Mary, and Lucy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings: Lee and Anne.

Funeral services will be held privately in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerard's name to Grace To You, whom Gerard supported for many years, PO Box 4000, Panorama City, CA 91412 https://www.gty.org/donate.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered online at www.RoyersfordFuneralHome.com.
