Harcharan Singh Sokhi, age 86, husband of Maya (Chadda) Sokhi of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 in his residence. Born on January 20, 1937, in Jamshedpur, India, he was a son of the late Pritam Kaur Sokhi and Dirtha Singh Sokhi.
Harcharan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Khalsa College in Mumbai, India. He had been professionally licensed under the National Society of Professional Engineers.
He started his career at Telco (Tata Steel) in Jamshedpur India. He emigrated to Canada in the late 60s, working as a Mechanical Engineer, beginning at the Nickel Mines in Thunder Bay, Canada before moving on to Walker Exhaust Systems. Harcharan and his family then moved to the United States, specifically Phoenixville, PA, where he spent many years employed at Phoenix Steel, International Paper and Container Corporation of American before ending his career at Bethlehem and Lukens Steel.
He was an avid collector of stamps, coins, model planes and cars, and post cards from all over the world. Harcharan was an avid reader and enjoyed religious and spiritual books. He had a joy for photography, music and was an avid audiophile. He also enjoyed playing cricket. He had a great sense of humor and was a jokester. While still living in India, he won first prize in a competition to be cast in a Colgate toothpaste advertisement.
Harcharan loved to send handwritten postcards to his grandchildren and would often enjoy writing with different colors of ink. He was an avid historian telling stories to his family about Asian, European, and World History.
In addition to his loving wife, Harcharan is survived by his sons: Harjinder Singh Sokhi, and his wife, Meena Kaur Sokhi and Aman Singh Sokhi, and his wife, Stacy Elizabeth Sokhi; grandchildren: Jeevan Singh Sokhi, Arjun Singh Sokhi, Cora Elizabeth Sokhi and Mia Annabell Sokhi; and sister: Jaspal Kaur Sandhu.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc, Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
