Helen Pearl (Smith) High, 85, wife of the late William M. High, Jr., of St. Peter's Road, Pottstown, PA, died on Thursday, August 5, 2010.
She was born in West Vincent Township, the daughter of the late Horace O. and Clara (Pennypacker) Smith. She was a 1942 graduate of Spring City High School and worked as a secretary at Kimberton Farms and married in 1944.
As a mother of four and housewife, she managed the household, shared in the work on the family dairy farm for seven years in Carlisle, PA and for forty-three years at Ridglea Dairy Farm, Ridglea Dairy Store, and Ridge Restaurant located at Bucktown.
She was a member and deaconess at Coventry Church of the Brethren in Kenilworth, the Willing Worker class and was coordinator of the lap robe ministry.Along with her husband, she was the organizer and leader of the Tri-Community 4-H Club and a member of the Chester County Senior Extension. Active in South Coventry government she held the notary public position for 12 years, was the Township Auditor from more than 20 years, and served on the Township Board of Elections.
Her baking accolades soared as she baked for customers at the Ridge Restaurant and as a member of the Ridge Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She served as a certified Chester County food handler for Ridge Restaurant, Ridge Fire Co. and St. Matthew's United Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Lester B. High, husband of the late Carol J. High, of St. Peters Road and Carl J. High, husband of Caroline High, of Hoflein, Austria; two daughters, Karen J. High, wife of Jerry L. King of Virginia, IL and Fay High of Reading; two brothers, Lawrence E. Smith husband of Ruth M. Smith of Cadmus Rd, Pottstown and L. Ray Smith husband of the late Marlene Smith of Linfield; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Coventry Church of the Brethren, East Cedarville Rd and Keim St., Pottstown, PA 19465. Calling hours will be on Monday evening at the church from 7-8:30 PM and Tuesday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 AM. Burial will be in East Coventry Mennonite Cemetery.
